Resoconto:

1° giorno

REPORT

 1° Day

21 dogs competing.   Registration opened at 07:00 and the trial got underway punctually at 08:30.

The trial took place in three separate difficult areas of terrain with pheasants and partridges.  The first two retrieves were carried out over strips of sorghum bordered on one side by a wood and on the other cultivated ground with narrow strips of uncultivated ground in between.  The retrieves were long with accuracy of marking and minimum handling making the difference.

The first round of the trial continued on another difficult terrain with strips of sorghum, young poplars and rough ground.

After  first selection from the two retrieves, the third retrieve, on the same terrain but with increased difficulty led to five dogs being selected to continue on the third area, uncultivated ground alternating with strips of sorghum - ideal to show up the excellent work of both the spaniels and the retrievers.

2° Day

The rough, uncultivated terrain of the second day gave the judges ample opportunity to evaluate the exceptional work of the dogs that were gradually thinned  out with four remaining after the second retrieve of the day.  The accuracy of marking and the precision required for the blinds with various distractions over considerable distances lead to a hard test both for the dogs and the handlers.  After completing the third retrieve of the day (sixth over the two days) the quartet was all level, requiring the judges to really put the the competitors to the test for the fourth retrieve.  Now the details and subtleties came into play to make the difference.  A splendid mark over a distance of about 80 metres where the dog had to cross three changes of uncultivated ground needing only the command to send the dog and arriving directly at the fall gave the victory to LESSER BURDOCK ABBOTSTONE, handled by David Latham (UK), already three-times winner of the IGL Championship in Great Britain.  Excellent work was also carried out by our Lazzaretto, Gislon and Zappavigna.  In particular, our Laura Lazzaretto  with INT FT, IT FT CH THE ROAD RUNNER, the sole golden in the trial, narrowly missed the victory using only two more commands than the victor on the last retrieve.David Latham, significantly, expressed his compliments both for the trial itself and for the level of the dogs in Italy who could be ready to compete in the British Championship.I should like to take this opportunity of thanking the international and Italian judges for conducting an excellent trial, all the guns coordinated by Alberto Bonomi for their great work, the spaniels, the Azienda "La Rosetta"  for their hospitality, and all the people who lent a hand in organizing the event,  in particular our President, Francis Bisagno, who conducted the line and coordinated the trial excellently.

Last but not least, the RCI has donated 50 pheasants/partridges shot during the first day to two charity communities in order to help them to give cooked food to poor people.  It would be nice if this became a habit after all Field Trials.
